Triggers Score Seven in Eighth to Beat North Platte 80s

June 14 2024 The Trinidad Triggers defeated the North Platte 80s 8-3 at Central Park, overcoming a 3-1 deficit with a seven-run eighth inning. Trinidad outhit North Platte 12-6 and finished with eight runs while committing one error.

Jacob Mitchell led the Triggers with three hits, three RBI and two runs. Peter Bocchino and Humberto Maldonado each collected two hits, with Bocchino driving in one run, while Dustin Chartrand added two hits and two RBI, including a triple. North Platte’s Chris Calhoun went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Jerry Liang had one hit and one RBI.

Ben Kowalski started for Trinidad and allowed six hits and three runs, two earned, in five innings while striking out six. Kenny Stewart and Angel Garza each worked a scoreless inning before Aleiman Cruz earned the win with a hitless, scoreless ninth that included three walks and one strikeout. Colin Kelly struck out three in a scoreless inning.

Seth Christiansen pitched 7 1/3 innings for North Platte, allowing seven hits and five runs with five walks and nine strikeouts. Ryan Schroeder took the loss after allowing five hits and three runs in two-thirds of an inning. North Platte scored once in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings, while Trinidad answered with one run in the fifth before breaking the game open in the eighth.
